Doll Lesson 1 ~ General info (colors, accessories and tips)

while some times it's alright to wear the craziest colors, this is not always the case. for different styles, certain colors are better than others (though who am i to restrain you, go wild if you so wish)

Sweet Lolita: the cute one. the colors: pastels and soft colors are very good for it. light pink, light blue, light green, for example. keep it light and soft and cute! Accessories: straw hats (mini and normal sized), wicker baskets. Prints/ extra: the best thing about sweet lolita is the freedom with prints. there was one with musical notes, another with an aice in wonderland theme. and a different one with different types of sweets all over. go crazy when it comes to prints.

Grusome (guro) Loli: the gory one. i think it looks alittle insane and emo, depending on how you do it. the colors: white is really popular. but the style tends to stay a little goth loli, so you can simply keep your normal dress. black, white and light colors are good. Accessories: i love knives, just don't bring real ones. teddy bears, porcelain dolls, bandages and my personal favourite, eyepatches all complete the look. aprons ae good to put blood splatter on as well. and don't forget your blood!
Sub Type: Sweet Guro Loli. just like sweet loli, you wear light colors, all the same accessories, only a little gorier. instead of flowors in your wicker basket, you might have some bloody stuff (halloween props are useful, skulls, knives, etc.) and hanging from your straw hat you could have bloody bandages.

Gothic Lolita: dollish one. the colors: it stays pretty dark. red, black, white, dark purple and navy blue.   lots of lace and ruffles too. accessories: bonnets, lacy headdresses, top hats, purses, parasoles, bows, ribbons, dolls and lots other. not to mention, whatever you feel wil go with your outfit. be creative and make the style your own.

Wa/Qi Lolita: the oriental style! the colors: uses alot of reds, blacks, whites, purples and golds. it's like a kimono/ cheongsam only shorter and lolita-ish. accessories: i have not seen alot of accessories with it before, but i would use a fan, maybe one of those silk draw string purses along with the normal goth loli stuff, like ribbons and neck corsets.

Elengant Lolita: mature and long. the colors: uses almost only black, much like the kuro loli sub style of goth loli. empire waists and long trench jackets, ahh, so nice. the accessories: corset, mini crowns, top hats, long jakets, gloves, canes. blonde hair in an up do looks very good with it.

Punk Lolita: wooooo partay! it's alot like the punk of north america. the colors: reds, blacks, grays, whites. and alot of other colors, cause this one is pretty free. it keeps the lace. accessories: safety pins, fishnet, plaid skirts. alot of rips and tears, chains.

alright, those are the basics, but here's a few more.

School Girl Lolita: like exanding on japanese school girl's uniform, only with lots of the lace, wide sleeves and lacy neck ties. accessories: stockings/ blomers, chains, fishnet, mini back packs. a nice emblem on the sleeve or chest adds a nice touch.

Royal Lolita: much different tha elegant lolita. it seems more like the royal dresses of the 18th and medieval centuries. only shorter. colors: reds, whites, and many other colors. accsessories: gloves, mini crowns, top hats, lace headreses,   red hair looks night with this style, and lots of curls and up dos. prints/extras: floral prints are nice.

done. simple tips and colors. be free with yourself

Doll Lesson 2 ~ Hand Made Headdresses

a more or less simple lesson on how to make headdresses in two ways, both of which include a knowledge of crafts

Knitted ~

this is the form i use. if you do not know how to knit, visit this site : http://www.theknittersbag.com/   it is quite helpful.

step 1: first count out about 60 stiches (using cable cast), feel free to add or take away, as long as it comes down to the top of your ears

step 2: start knitting in the simple garter stitch.

step 3: when your headdress is wide enough finish it off (about 13 lines, if you're using very thin yarn), then you have a nice solid base.

step 4: gather the materials you will be using to decorate your headdress. buttons, lace, ribbons, fake roses and even printed cloths can be used. you can make bows, or gather the cloth.

then you have a great and easy to make headdress.

Sewed~

a bit harder, stiffener should be used.

step 1: use a couple of layers of your prefered type of cloth (simply lace can also be used)   sew them together with thread of the same color. creates a simple retangular or circular base, depending on how you cut it.

step 2: add the accessories (bows, ribbons, etc) and you're done!

Extras

how to sew bows ~ tie the bow the way you normally do, and right through the center, where everything is knotted, stick the needle through and attach to fabric.

how to gather cloth ~ without attaching the   cloth or lace to anything, pull the needle in and out, in a way that if you pull the lace, it will fold and gather. it will look like a dotted line before you pull it.   sew close together for tiny folds and far apart for big ones.

how to make circular gathers ~ take your lace or cloth, and make folds any size of your choosing, going around in a circle (long and think peices are needed, depending on how big you want it). when you have finished and are satisfied with the size,   stick the needle and thread right through the center, make sure you have all the folds. then you can attach it to cloth, or simply keep sewing.

please tell me if this was helpful at sweetsweetanime12@hotmail.com. pictures for each step will be included later.

Doll Lesson 3 ~ Hand Made Guro Loli Eyepatchs

simple to make, but wonderful to have.

Step 1: cotton works wonderfully for the base, and can look alot like bandages. a few layers (i went for 4) sewn together work well.

step 2: after sewing your cloth in a square (or circle), you can add some accents to make in unique. i chose black lace gathered around the edge. for other ideas on what to add to it, visit the Extras at the end of the Handmade headdresses, lesson 2.

Step 3: the ties are sewn one end to one corner, and one to the corner parrallel (strait across) from it. if the eyepatch is going on ur right eye, then the tie to the right ear should be shorter, and the tie to your left ear longer. and vice versa. make sure to fit the ribbon or string before sewing.

and voila, a beautiful eyepatch all your own. if there's anything that confuses you, or you would like to show me your creations, contact me at sweetsweetanime@hotmail.com. make sure to ask for Riri.
Doll Lesson 4 ~ Mini Bead Crowns

all you really need is craft wire and some tiny beads, and maybe one or two big ones. a simple how to.

Step 1: use one bit of craft wire for your base. string the beads on, and tie the two ends together to ake a circle.

Step 2: use as many bits of wire as you want, and shape the wire the way you want to make your crown, or maybe even a top hat. the options are endless. attach the wires that will form the crown to your base.

Step 3: leave a bit of space at   the ends, and use you larger bead. make two (or more) of the wires that are across from each other come through the bead to secure it, and wrap allthe others around the bead, or on the wires around it.

and you have a pretty little bead crown that probably costed you alot of pain. (it did for me) if you'd like to show me your creations, and some of your photos, advertise a style you made, or the like, contact me at sweetsweetanime12@hotmail.com
the New Lolita Design Contest

have you had a brand new type of gothloli in mind, but you just can't get people interested? tried to sell that gothloli but people still thouht it wasn't cool? that new type of Gothloli is welcomed in this contest.

if you can draw or photograph or model that new design, enter it in the contest, and you can win advertisement on the site, a couple of my own sites, and your style will be sold at the Anime North (http://www.animenorth.org/) next year.

Rules~

anyting goes. as long as it's wild and different. remember to coin your own term for it. (like my School Girl Lolita, or Sweet Guro Loli) a nice name is amost everything.

just remember, if the outfit is really 'sexy' please do not model it. put it on a mannequin or photograph it.

you are also being judged on how you present your design. you must get in every aspect (especially if theres alot of detail). a photo shoped design will win points, but that's not the only way, you can use settings, and such.

try your hardest and have fun! submit to sweetsweetanime12@hotmail.com and it will be passed on to the judge.
